Maine Attraction

We finally got to go on our first vacation since the start of Covid and we decided to visit my parents up in Maine. It is a pretty long drive for us, so we decided to make a long weekend of it. We made sure we had all the essentials packed (spoiler alert: we did not) and headed up.

We got there fairly late on the day we left, so we took the night to settle in and plan the weekend out so we could make the most of it. I thought staying in a different place would feel weird but it quickly felt like home. I was relieved that Aggie settled in and after a night she seemed comfortable and relaxed.

The first full day we were up, my parents planned to rent an ATV and go out to see some sights on the trails in the area. My mom had gotten us sandwiches from a local restaurant called Mosher’s, and our main destination for the day was Quill Hill.

It was a bit of a bumpy ride but that just added to the fun. It had been a long time since I had ridden any kind of ATV and it was a nostalgic experience.

We finally made it to the top of Quill Hill and got out the basket my mom had made us for lunch. Laura had a lobster roll and I had a cheesesteak. We were both blown away by the food. Even though the cheesesteak was cold it was so good I decided that the next day we would be stopping at Moshers again to get a fresh one. It ended up being a great day, with great food, and great views.

Once we got back, we settled down while my dad made dinner. We had gotten pretty dusty from riding and showers were necessary. I got in and when I went to clean my hair I realized I was pretty much out of shampoo. That wasn’t a terrible thing to forget, after all I had enough to clean off and I could always use Laura’s shampoo bar if necessary, so I finished up and dried off. It was then I realized my biggest mistake: I forgot to pack underwear, despite discussing my tendency to overpack underwear. This was a mistake that was not so easily remedied, and has taught me a valuable lesson for future trips.

The next day, we packed everyone back into the cars and took a drive out to Young’s Lobster Pound. I was skeptical at first because the last time I had tried lobster we were at Red Lobster and I was not a fan. It was a bit of a long ride but there were plenty of great views along the way and it passed by in no time.

Luckily, it was dog friendly so Hawkeye and Aggie got to join us on our adventure. The Pound is an awesome place, it is right on the water and they have all the tanks with the fresh seafood right there when you order.

I decided to hedge my bets and get the surf and turf, that way if I was disappointed by the lobster I still had something to fall back on (and Laura could have more lobster!) All the food was so good, and I was not disappointed by the lobster at all. It turns out Red Lobster is ironically not a great place to get lobster.

I quickly finished mine and helped Laura finish what she couldn’t of the massive three and a half pound lobster she got. Everything was so good and I’d recommend it to anyone who is visiting Maine if you want some good lobster.

About thirty seconds away was Perry’s Nut House that my parents wanted to stop at before we headed back. I am not normally a fan of fudge so I opted out of getting some while we were there and I now regret that decision. As I am writing this, I am trying a bit of the fudge my parents bought and it is so good. It isn’t sickeningly sweet like every fudge I have had and it actually tastes like what it is supposed to. The Nut House also had a few curiosities that were interesting and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Luckily, on the way back we had to pass right past Mosher’s so my parents picked up another lobster roll for Laura and another cheesesteak for me. I was definitely glad they did because it was one of the best cheesesteaks I have ever had. It puts most cheesesteaks you can get in PA to shame. After dinner, we helped my mom with some tech support stuff around the house and got the french toast bake ready for this morning’s breakfast.

Today, we started the day by having the french toast bake with my parents and after that I started to write this post. I think today we are going to head into Rangely to check out some more local places and get some souvenirs before we have to head back home.

By the time this post goes up we will probably be back home but the trip was definitely worth it. It was great to see my parents again and we had plenty of fun adventures while we were here.
